New York: Twins died from heat death because father forgot them in the car

Two and a half years ago, the Rodriguez family went through a real family tragedy

In July 2019, a 39-year-old family man from New York, USA, was charged with manslaughter. The reason: Juan Rodriguez forgets his one-year-old twins in the overheated car. The babies then die. Meanwhile his wife has forgiven him.

The family sticks together

Juan Rodriguez, who works as a social worker, tearfully confesses to the police two and a half years ago: “I killed my babies!”. But how could such a tragedy even come about? The father says he assumed he’d dropped the twins off before he started working at daycare. But it was not like that. He forgot the babies in the car on a hot July day, and after his eight-hour day at work he finds the children dead in the back seat. He himself calls the police immediately. This later reports that the dead twins are said to have had a temperature of 42 degrees. At the time, the judge described the case as a “tragic, unfortunate incident”, while Juan’s lawyer considered him to be mentally unstable and highly suicidal.

But as if by a miracle, the family sticks together and survives the sad incident. Marissa Rodriguez, the mother of the deceased twins, has forgiven her husband Juan. Although the relationship between the two of them has changed, as she admitted to 7news a few days ago, she has now been able to forgive the 39-year-old: “I know that Juan would never intentionally harm our children.” Marissa and Juan Rodriguez have four other children.

Luna and Phoenix will not be forgotten

Juan Rodriguez is initially charged with manslaughter and negligent homicide. He pleads guilty to the negligent endangerment and does not have to serve a prison sentence. The whole family remembers the day in July 2019, on which Luna and Phoenix die, as if it were yesterday. “I realized that Juan and I grieve in very different ways. I like to look at photos from happier times. He doesn’t,” explains the grieving mother.

The family wants to focus on the twins’ lives and remember the beautiful things. “We’re trying not to focus on her death or the incredible loss,” said Marissa Rodriguez. (vdu)
