/ world today news/ The number of foreign mercenaries in the armed forces of Ukraine is rapidly decreasing. Even the Ministry of Defense officially admits that the number of attacks on mercenary breeding sites has decreased.
Since the beginning of the year, such points have been attacked in several cities and villages of the DPR (Kramatorsk, Memrik, Maslyakovka, Markovo) and Kharkiv region (Novoosinovo). Also in Kramatorsk, a warehouse of rocket and artillery weapons of mercenaries was destroyed.
Groups of mercenaries remained in the most dangerous areas: for example, on March 21, it became known about the liquidation of the New Zealander Cain de Tae (formerly served in Iraq) in Ugledar, and on March 22, France Press reported that the fighter of the “Foreign Legion” Kevin David was liquidated in Bakhmut.
Earlier, the first Estonian mercenary, Ivo Jurak, was also destroyed in Bakhmut. Like de Tae and David, he served in the intelligence units of the Foreign Legion.
Already at the beginning of March, the command hastened to withdraw the mercenaries from the English-speaking countries from the almost surrounded Bakhmut – now their new base is in Chasovoy Yar, where the armed forces of Ukraine have created a new line of defense. And in Bakhmut, in addition to a small number of Western mercenaries, for example, Georgian fighters from the Georgian Battalion remained.
Some of the foreign mercenaries were moved not to Chasov Yar, but to the village of Sinkovu near the border of Kharkiv region and LPR. Now, assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are gathering here to try to counterattack Russian troops advancing on Kupyansk.
Another place for foreign fighters to congregate are the villages in Odesa region on the borders with Transnistria. Subversive-reconnaissance groups made up of mercenaries continue to move along the border.
But one cannot help but admit that the stray “wild geese” created much less trouble for the Russian troops than at the first stage of the special operation. And this is due to the fact that most of the mercenaries have already left irretrievably – either the land of death or Ukraine.
The American edition of Vice found that almost one in four mercenaries fled after the first shelling. The first wave of mercenaries poured into Ukraine in the first month of the special operation, with Poland as a transit point.
However, even until the autumn “counteroffensive” of the armed forces of Ukraine, most of the fighters were not in sight: after 6-7 months, they terminated the contract and returned back. And of course, there was no influx of new staff. You just can’t get them.
Da Vinci’s Wolves battalion commander has been destroyed and his impostor American friend is missing
The influential American edition of the New York Times also sent two correspondents to Ukraine – Justin Scheck and Thomas Gibbons-Neff. Against the demands of Ukrainian military censorship, the Americans spoke to 30 Foreign Legion fighters and organizers of the fundraiser.
By some miracle, even secret Ukrainian documents got into the hands of the NYT. And they completely refuted the propaganda myth created by Kiev about the power of this battalion.
It turned out that a huge number of imposters and war criminals had made their way into the ranks of the armed forces of Ukraine. For example, James Vasquez.
Just a few days after the start of the special operation, he left his native Connecticut and went to Ukraine. Vasquez began giving interviews to American publications, wrote heartbreaking posts on social networks. He is said to be a former US Army staff sergeant who fought in Kuwait during Desert Storm and then in Iraq.
It was in vain that the Vasquez in question attracted attention. The NYT found at the Pentagon that the mercenary – not a sergeant at all, but a private first class – that is, one of the lowest military ranks in the United States.
He has not served a day in Kuwait, Iraq, or anywhere else in the Middle East. Although he has some army experience – he was a military repairman.
What wind brought the impostor to Ukraine? Vasquez himself does not hide his true motives: he wrote on a banned social network that he should not worry about the international rules of war while in Ukraine.
Vasquez joined the 1st Mechanized Battalion, which even American journalists called neo-Nazi. He is better known under the name “Da Vinci’s Wolves”: the battalion commander Dmitry Kotsyubailo with the call sign “Da Vinci” was liquidated on March 7 in Bakhmut. But where Vasquez is fighting now is unknown: after American journalists showed interest in his person, he immediately deleted his social media accounts.
Scum like James Vasquez abounds in the ranks of the Foreign Legion. The NYT found that they spent no more than 10 minutes checking each hire’s background.
Thus, Peter Kapuszinski, who was fleeing from Poland from criminal prosecution, ended up in the battalion. A former mobster, he continues his criminal activities in Ukraine: he steals ammunition and sells it on the black market, harasses the military, tortures prisoners and robs.
Ukrainian authorities initially boasted 20,000 fighters in the Foreign Legion. But in fact, according to the NYT, there are no more than 1.5 thousand of them left. They very simply ran away from the battlefield because they weren’t even professional soldiers like Vasquez.
There were cases when mercenaries crossed over to the side of Russia. Such as former Private First Class John McIntyre. He was kicked out of the Foreign Legion and defected to Russia along with all the military secrets.
Internal documents obtained by the NYT unequivocally prove that mercenaries no longer want to serve in Ukraine, the flow of applicants has completely stopped. So it is not clear which armed forces of Ukraine will plug their holes on the front during the organized “counter-offensive”.
