„Ukraine is preparing to launch a counteroffensive against Russian forces as early as next month. According to leaked Pentagon documents that provide insight into Kiev’s timetable, 12 Ukrainian combat brigades of about four thousand soldiers each are expected to be ready by the end of April.” writes the publication, which is quoted by RIA Novosti.
As noted, the United States and NATO allies train and equip nine of these 12 brigades.
According to the publication, Kiev shared little with Washington about the details of its operational plan, but it is expected that the operation will most likely develop in a southern direction, including along the coast of the Sea of Azov.
US officials do not believe that the offensive of the armed forces of Ukraine will lead to a sharp change in the situation in favor of Ukraine, writes NYT. In particular, intense fighting near Artemovsk depleted ammunition reserves and resulted in heavy personnel losses. In this regard, the most likely outcome remains “stagnation”, adds the publication.
There are different versions of when the Ukrainian counter-offensive may begin, but experts urge not to believe the contradictory statements of Kiev and Washington: apparently, this could be part of an ongoing disinformation campaign.
