For the American adaptation, Serero clarified that his “idea is to make this work suitable for the American public, which has an established musical theater culture – a combination of theatrical dialogue and music. Born in 1950, the French filmmaker is known among others for the films “Ô Jerusalem”, “Harrison’s Flower”, with Andie MacDowell, Adrien Brody, Gerard Butler, Brendan Gleeson and “Man on Fire” with Joe Pesci, Scott Glenn and Jonathan Price. As well as several classics of French cinema with French actors Jean-Hughes Anglade, Christophe Lambert, Richard Anconina, Charlotte Gainsbourg and many others.
First presented in October 2000, the musical was an instant hit, equaling another famous French musical “Notre Dame de Paris”. The musical brought hits such as “The Desire to Love”, performed by Daniel Levi. The show whose original costumes were designed by Sonia Rykiel and whose original choreography is signed Kamel Ouali, revealed to the world artists who have become notable stars like Yael Naim, Ahmed Mouici, Ginie Line, Pablo Villafranca and others.
