Several thousand people gathered in the streets of New York yesterday to attend the 2nd Manhattanhenge of the year. What is a Manhattanhenge? This term designates the natural phenomenon during which the sun sets right in the alignment of the streets, recalling an identical phenomenon on the site megalithic of Stonehenge, England.
The first Manhattanhenge of the year 2018 took place on May 29, unfortunately clouds came to disturb the party. On the other hand, on May 30th, no cloud obstructed the horizon line! The event was all the more expected since it was about a complete Manhattahenge, that is to say with the totality of the sun on the horizon line. In any case, enough to delight spectators and photographers, as you will see below.
And if you want to see a Manhattanhenge, there are still 2 dates planned in 2018:
- July 12, 2018 at 8:20 p.m. (Manhattanhenge full, with all of the sun touching the horizon).
- July 13, 2018 at 8:21 p.m. (Manhattanhenge with half of the sun touching the horizon).
