New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that the city’s restaurants, entertainment venues and gyms will require a vaccination certificate to allow access.
“If you are vaccinated (…) you have the key, you can open the door. But if he is not vaccinated, unfortunately he will not be able to participate in many things, “De Blasio said at a press conference.
The order will go into effect on August 16, and full implementation will begin September 13. De Blasio said the order would encourage people to get vaccinated to combat the advance of the Delta variant, the CNBC news network reported.

The order comes a day after the Democratic mayor ordered that all city employees must be vaccinated and present a certificate to be able to work, after having eliminated the option of taking regular tests.
