New York is a city particularly popular with wealthy Americans. At the end of 2009, “Big Apple” had 667,200 people with more than $ 1 million in assets, according to the latest Capgemini ranking. That is to say more than in Los Angeles (235,800), Chicago (198,100) and Washington (152,400) combined, the next three metropolises on the list.
When these numbers are compared to the adult population of these cities, San Jose dominates the rankings. Almost 6% of people in the birthplace of Silicon Valley are millionaires, compared to 4.3% in New York and 3.9% in San Francisco.
This study also sheds light on the net recovery in the health of millionaires, in all the metropolises of the United States. Thanks in particular to the rebound in stock market indices, their population grew by 17.5% in 2009. Houston (9th in the ranking) is the city with the highest growth rate (+ 28.9%).
