For the first time in three matches between the two teams, the New York team found a way to defeat the Montreal team.
Wednesday evening, at the UBS Arena, the Big Apple club won 3-2 in a shootout.
It was Alex Carpenter who led the charge among the winners. The 29-year-old striker hit the target twice in the first period. She scored one goal on the power play and another on the penalty kill. It was her second double of the season and a fifth game in which she collected at least two points.

Carpenter also scored during the shootout, like her teammate Abby Roque. In front of the winners’ net, Abigail Levy frustrated Marie-Philip Poulin (twice), Tereza Vanisova and Laura Stacey.
Montreal’s goals in regulation were the work of Stacey and Maureen Murphy. The former took advantage of a numerical advantage in the second period to cut the gap in half. Catherine Dubois provided her first career assist on this goal.
In the third period, Vanisova rushed to the net and skillfully handed the puck to Murphy. The latter took the opportunity to score her second goal of the season.
Montreal will return to competition on Saturday, as part of a visit from Ottawa to the Verdun Auditorium.
