New York Suspends Trump’s Former Attorney Rudy Giuliani

Rudy Giuliani, former president Trump’s attorney, has been banned from practicing law in New York state. The measure was imposed because he made false statements in his efforts to reverse Trump’s defeat in the presidential election, according to a court.

According to the court, the country is still torn by the false claim that large-scale fraud has taken place in the November 2020 elections. Continuous sowing doubts with lies will damage trust in the government and society, the verdict reads.

Giuliani’s lawyer says it is unheard of that the measure was imposed without a reply from his client, who is also a former mayor of New York. Giuliani had previously called the investigation an attack on free speech; at least he wouldn’t have deliberately made false claims.

‘Not a shred of evidence’

The court was unimpressed, pointing out that in Pennsylvania, for example, Giuliani claimed that deceased people had cast their votes without providing “a shred of evidence.”

An investigation is also underway into Giuliani’s contacts with Ukrainians, which he would have used, among other things, to collect incriminating information about President Biden’s son. Before that, in April a raid done in Giuliani’s apartment and office.
