New York Subway Shooting: Toll of Injuries and Victims | Today April 12, 2022 | International

At least five people were wounded by gunshots in a shooting recorded this Tuesday in the Metro of New York, in which apparently also a gas bomb was detonated, according to local media.

Police are looking for a man in a gas mask and an orange construction vest as a possible suspect in the attack, those same sources point out.

Images distributed on social networks show several people injured and covered in blood being treated on a platform at the 36th Street station, in the district of Brooklyn, in the Sunset Park neighborhood, an area with a large Mexican population.

Some photographs of a smoke-filled Metro car have also been published and, for now, it is not clear if the shooting took place in the station or inside a train.

according to the chain CNN, in total there would be at least 17 injured, a minimum of five of them with gunshot wounds.

The incident is not being investigated as an act of terrorism and no injuries are serious, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said.

The authorities have asked citizens to avoid the area, where numerous ambulances and police units have been deployed.

The governor of the state, Kathy Hochul, said via Twitter that she received a report of the situation in Brooklyn and that emergency crews are in the area.
