New York Subway authorities will not receive cash at their stations

NEW YORK.- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reported that in the cabins of different Metro stations in this city they will no longer receive cash, nor will they change their damaged or expired cards (MetroCard).

The information was given by the entity’s director of security, Pat Warren.

It should be remembered that the MTA managers prohibited the employees of the booths from carrying out this type of transaction, for fear of some contagion from Covid-19.

Those who want to change their damaged cards will have to use the mail service or go to the customer service center of the entity located at 3 Stone Street, in lower Manhattan.

This decision made by the MTA authorities will be permanent. And the OMNY system, which is currently used by both bus and metro, will completely replace MetroCards in 2023.

“This decision is a crime against poor people, it must be stopped completely,” Brooklyn State Senator Julia Salazar wrote on Twitter.

To date, users can make use of MetroCard’s automatic recharge machines, but these, in the future, will also be replaced by OMNY machines, which, according to the authorities, will also receive cash.
