New York streets closed to vehicular traffic

The program of open streets of the city begins this Saturday and will expand even more for this summer.

The Department of Transportation explains that it has more than 150 participating locations.

The expansion adds 21 new locations, primarily in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The program was created by former Mayor de Blasio’s administration in 2020 as an initiative to make the streets more accessible to New Yorkers.

over 80 open streetss will be operational starting today, when the Department of Transportation marks Earth Day by banning cars from nine busy corridors across the city.
