As inflation continues to rise and commodity prices become less affordable for buyers, there are reports that many people in New York are resorting to stealing food and other essentials.
The city’s pharmacies are taking a bit more extreme measures by increasing their security measures to deal with the increase in thefts.
For example, Spam meat cans, which cost $3.99 for a 12-ounce can, are now encased in anti-theft plastic bins. This was done by a Duane Reade store in Manhattan.
