New York Stocks: Slight losses at the end of a successful year | 12/31/21

NEW YORK (awp international) – The US stock markets closed a little lower on the last trading day of a successful stock market year. The Dow Jones Industrial fell 0.16 percent to 36,338.30 points on Friday after hitting a record high the previous day.

The S&P 500 lost 0.26 percent to 4766.18 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 0.66 percent to 16,320.08 points.

However, the view of the year as a whole is very positive. The Dow rose by almost a fifth in 2021. The S&P and the Nasdaq 100 were even able to gain more than a quarter each.

There was no market-moving news from either the corporate or the economic world. Experts described the trade as thin, important world exchanges such as Frankfurt, Tokyo and Zurich remain closed on this day.

Tesla slipped 1.27 percent. After the recall of almost half a million cars in the USA the day before, the electric car maker now has to order vehicles to the workshops in China as well. In the year almost ended, the company’s share price, which is one of the very few worldwide on the stock market to be valued at more than one trillion US dollars, rose by almost half. / He
