The governor of the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, has lavantado the obligation to wear a face mask in public places, in force since last December 10, although allowing the different counties, companies or cities to continue maintaining it. Yesterday was the last day of mandatory use of the mask, according to the governor in a press appearance.
The obligation remains for children in schools, at a time when cases of the micron variant have declined dramatically to lower levels than last November, having recorded a worrying peak in early January. The mask in school spaces will be kept at least until the winter holidays, which begin the 21 february, reports Efe.
The obligation to wear a mask was in force in all types of closed spaces, including shops, public transport and private companies, under penalty of a fine of 1,000 dollars that was imposed on staff of cafs or restaurants in surprise inspections.
The mayor of new York City, has not clarified whether it is in favor of maintaining the obligation, and the newspaper New York Post ensures that the city exercise its autonomy in this regard and not to apply the lifting of the measure announced by Hochul.
Five states (Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, California and Oregon) have announced their plans to relaxing mask-wearing mandates in schools and other enclosed spaces in the next few weeks.
