New York State Launches Applications for TAP for the 2024-2025 School Year: Financial Assistance for Higher Education

New York State has launched applications for the Tuition Assistance Programknown as TAP, for the 2024-2025 school year.

With this program, the state supports eligible residents to pay tuition at schools approved by the state. An annual TAP support can be up to $5,665and since it is a subsidy, it is not necessary to return it.

The program is also available for undocumented students who can apply for help through the New York State DREAM Act.

TAP is also available to students attending SUNY, CUNY, and an independent, nonprofit, degree-granting university on a part-time basis. To be eligible for part-time TAP, you must have been a first-time freshman in the 2006-07 academic year or later and maintain a “C” average.

“Over the last 50 years, TAP has been instrumental in help students from low-income families, first-generation college students, and other students achieve their academic aspirations. As we mark this important milestone, we look forward to continuing to support the next generation of New York students through this critical program,” said State Governor Kathy Hochul.

New York State has long recognized the importance of investing in education and providing access to quality higher education opportunities,” Hochul added.

Requirements to apply for the program:

· To be legal resident of New York State and have resided in New York State for 12 continuous months.

· Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.

· Graduated from high school in the United Statesearned a high school equivalency diploma by passing a Test Assessment of Secondary Completion (TASC), formally known as the GED, or passed a federally approved “ability to benefit” test as defined by the Commissioner of the State Department of Education.

· Study at an approved postsecondary institution in New York State.

· Be enrolled in an approved study program and have good academic standing with at least a “C” average after payment of the fourth semester.

· Be enrolled as a full-time student and take twelve or more credits applicable to the degree program, per semester.

· You will be charged minus $200 tuition per year.

· Comply with the income eligibility limitations.

· Not be in default on any student loans state or federal and not be delinquent with any state grant payments;

· Comply with the terms of any terms of service imposed by a New York State adjudication.
