New York State Approves Con Edison’s $1.2 Billion Clean City Project in Queens

New York State’s utility regulator on Thursday approved Con Edison’s $1.2 billion Reliable Clean City project in Queens.

The Idlewild Project is critical to the state’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 85% of 1990 levels by 2050, the New York State Public Utilities Commission (PSC) said. in a press release.

The Clean City Project is necessary to maintain the reliability of Con Edison’s electric system and as interconnection points for energy storage and future clean energy projects, as well as to mitigate future reliability issues arising from load growth, PSC said.

“With today’s decision, Con Edison will make infrastructure investments designed to promote the transition to a clean energy economy while ensuring the reliability of the electricity grid as a whole,” said the president of the Commission, Rory M.
