The Vessel in Manhattan—which common New Yorkers call “The Giant Shawarma” or sometimes a “stairway to nowhere”—opened in 2019 in Hudson Yards. After four suicides, the call to tear down the structure is getting louder.

During the pandemic, The Vessel was mostly closed, partly due to a number of suicides. The attraction was reopened two months ago, with a number of measures to reduce the risks.

The developer is now investigating how to proceed.
