The New York team Special Unit loses its showrunner Warren Leight who will therefore not return for the next season. After several years of collaboration, he decides to take a break.
New York SVU loses a central member of its team according to TVLine. Its showrunner Warren Leight announced on social media that he was taking a break after leading the detective series from season 21 to season 23.
He shared on Twitter the reasons for his departure: “The last day of filming is always bittersweet. As some of you may have already guessed, I’m retiring from the show after the Season 23 finale. The last two years of directing during the pandemic have been tough, and I’ve decided to take a break.”
This isn’t the first time that Warren Leight has bid farewell to the series. He had already been the showrunner of New York Special Unit during seasons 13 to 17, and had decided to leave the police series for the first time in 2016 before resuming his position in 2019. Will he return again in the years? coming ?
He also spoke on his Twitter account of the many complications he and his team had to deal with over the past two years, such as actors falling ill, loss of filming locations… The difficulties encountered during the pandemic therefore led to his decision to leave the show.
The last episode of season 23 will be broadcast in the United States on May 19, but Olivia (Mariska Hargitay) and her team will return at the start of the school year for a new season. All that’s missing is a new showrunner for the series.
