New York Science Museum reopens its doors to the public

This Saturday the New York Science Museum located in Corona, Queens, reopens its doors to the public after having suffered serious damage during storm Ida last September.

The reopening comes two months after having reactivated its operations after it was closed for almost two years due to the pandemic, Ida left much of this museum in ruins.

About four inches of water entered, damaging everything in its path: walls, elevators, offices, laboratories, galleries with various exhibits and items.

Since then, the museum has been under repair. But already for this weekend more than 75% of its galleries are ready to receive visitors.

And according to Frances Escaño, director of Government Affairs at the NY Hall of Science: “We want people to come into the community, especially to come and be part of the museum. And to play and play because that is what this museum does. ; one has to design, make and create and play”.

Among the open galleries are the zoo, the little school, the space for designers and creators in search of life.

They also have a new exhibition: the experiment of happiness. A gallery with more than 20 interactive games where visitors can experience how different sounds, colors, designs can increase happiness.

One of them is made up of various panels that show how different colors affect mood.

The cost of these repairs is estimated to be approximately $15 million. In the meantime they created some sections to be used for experiments.

Emilio Bautista, supervisor at the Science Museum.

Emilio Bautista, project supervisor for the museum, says: “We are preparing a smaller space but we still want people to come, enjoy, teach and learn something different, something new.”

Tickets are $14 for adults and $11 for children, students, and seniors. And from next week entering this museum will be free every Friday.
