NEW YORK – A panic button in New York schools: It is the bet of legislators in search of keeping New York students safe in the midst of a wave of shootings in the United Statesand could very soon be signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul.
Senators Elijah Reichlin-Melnick and Shelley Mayer, Assemblymen Ken Zebrowski and Michael Lawler, along with the family of Alyssa Alhadeff, will announce the passage of Alyssa’s Law, which requires schools to consider installing panic alarms this Wednesday in Nyack. High School.
The New York Assemblytried “Alyssa’s Law” last June 4.
The bill is named after Alyssa Alhadeffwho was murdered in Parkland High School en 2018.
Since the shooting, her family has advocated passage of Alyssa’s Law.
The event at Nyack High School is expected to be attended by Alyssa’s cousin, who lives in Rockland.
