New York Robbery Suspect Jesús Alejandro Rivas Figueroa Captured in Yonkers After Shooting Incident

The suspect responds to the name of Jesús Alejandro Rivas Figueroa. According to authorities, he arrived in New York last September. The three subjects could have been the people who robbed a store in the Bronx two weeks ago.

The teenager of Hispanic origin was captured at 106 Saratoga Avenue in Yonkers. Authorities consider him extremely dangerous because he dared to use a firearm in the middle of a public street and shoot at a police officer.

New York Police Commissioner Edward Caban declared at a press conference that it was a “genuine miracle” that no one was seriously injured in the shooting.

Security camera video

A video from a security camera at the sports store recorded the moment in which a store employee asks a group of three young people who had a bag in their hands with a jacket that they had not paid for for a receipt.

The employee withdrew their merchandise because they could not prove that they had purchased the product. That’s when one of the teenagers, dressed in white, pulled out a gun and shot her.

The bullet did not hit the employee, but grazed a 38-year-old Brazilian tourist who was waiting in line to buy shoes.

The gunman fled the scene and fired twice at a police officer who was chasing him through the busy streets of Manhattan. According to authorities, the officer was unable to respond to the shots due to the large number of people walking around the scene.

Although Ahmad Khan Rahami did not appear on the lists of anti-terrorist organizations, his fingerprints were in the hands of the authorities because he submitted them as part of his process of acquiring American citizenship and because three years ago he was detained for an attack on a family member. Other witnesses described that when officers arrived at the scene, they recognized the suspect and asked him to show them his hands. At that moment, they confronted him, he shot them and they had to call for reinforcements.

The investigations, so far, indicate that there is “no element” to conclude that Rahami was part of a broader terrorist cell, according to authorities reported in a press conference.
