The restaurants in New York City have been closed since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, and at least the outdoor areas have been open for a few weeks. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that orders and meals could be ordered and consumed again from September 30th. However, strict requirements apply – for example, capacity restrictions for guests to around a quarter, two meters between the tables, fever measurements at the entrance as well as distance, mask and hygiene rules.
“That may not be the indoor food that we all know and love,” said Mayor de Blasio, “but it is a step forward for restaurant workers and all New Yorkers.” If the number of infections rose again, it would have to be reassessed. The outdoor areas of the gastronomy have been open again for a few weeks. Casinos, shopping centers, fitness studios and museums have also recently been allowed to reopen under strict conditions.
The state and especially the metropolis of New York had been an epicenter of the pandemic in the spring. In the meantime, however, the numbers have stabilized at a low level. Most recently, around 450 infected people were in the hospital in the state with around 19 million inhabitants, and less than one percent of the tens of thousands of daily tests were positive.
