A New York resident took legal action against McDonald’s after having an experience that put his life at risk.
The dispute centers on a Big Mac burger that contained cheese. And the client had asked for it without cheese, as he suffers from a severe allergy to dairy products.
Charles Olsen, the plaintiff, went into acute anaphylactic shock one night in February 2021 after eating a Big Mac that, contrary to his request, included American cheese.
Olsen’s symptoms were immediate and severe: itching and swelling in the throat, burning sensation in the body, hives and breathing difficulties, which led him to a critical situation that required urgent medical attention.
His partner, known only as Alexandra, rushed him to the hospital, where they almost had to intubate him to save his life.
The lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court, seeks reparations for damages suffered.
Olsen’s lawyer, Jory Lange, told The Daily Beast that it would have been very easy to avoid this incident.
Lange highlighted the increasing prevalence of serious food allergies and the responsibility that restaurants have to accurately address their customers’ requests, especially when it comes to common allergens such as dairy products.
The plaintiffs They did not declare compensation what they are looking for with the demand.
