The New York Red Bulls beat Atlético San Luis 2-1 thanks to a brace from Dante Vanzeir on Sunday on the second and final day of the group stage of the Leagues Cup, the international competition which brings together clubs from the North American MLS and the Mexican Liga MX.
Vanzeir opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a header from a corner. The visitors equalized in the 69th minute through Jhon Murillo. At the end of the match, New York goalkeeper Carlos Coronel pushed back a penalty from Unai Bilbao (90th +1). Shortly after, launched in depth, Vanzeir presented himself in front of the goalkeeper and offered the victory to his team (90th + 2).
With 5 out of 6 points, the New York Red Bulls qualify for the Round of 16, where a derby against New York City FC awaits them. New England Revolution also advances to the next round.
