NEW YORK. The Rangers are back at the top of the NHL table – after narrowly beating San Jose at home at Madison Square Garden.

– Yes, from this evening you will only remember the two points and move on, says goalscorer Mika Zibanejad to Sportbladet after the 6-5 victory.

The New York Rangers belong to the top tier of the table and San Jose is last, so really tonight’s showdown in Manhattan could only end in one way.

But it’s never really that simple, the Californian sharks play with the attitude of the one who has nothing to lose and were about to cause as big a problem for the Blueshirts as they did for the New Jersey Devils in Newark last Friday.

They had both 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first period and came back in the second and evened the home team’s 3-2 lead.

When the Rangers then gained the upper hand with 6-3, it still looked like the fight was over, but – nah. The visitors scored two quick goals at the end of the final act and only when the final whistle went could New York breathe a sigh of relief.

– A victory is a victory, says Mika Zibanejad with a wry smile when we meet him afterwards.

– But this one will not go down in history like one of our finer ones. You remember the two points and then you move on.

The Swedish first center – who scored a goal and played until one – at the same time takes the opportunity to praise the valiantly fighting opponents.

– As long as they remain in the matches, they are dangerous, because they really feel that they have nothing to lose and will go for it, he says.

– It has gone as it has for them, but they have good players, especially offensively.

One is Fabian Zetterlund, who splashed in the seventh goal of the season at the Garden.

However, the king of the rink was Artemi Panarin. He completed that hat-trick and thereby – with a total of 15 complete hits – moved up to fourth place in the shooting league.

– He is a true star, notes teammate Zibanejad.
