New York puts up funeral tents in the streets – content

The United States is fast becoming the world’s largest virus hotspot. More than 12,000 new corona cases were added on Wednesday, most of them in New York City

In front of a hospital in Manhattan, New York, some white tents have been set up to serve as temporary mortuaries. There are refrigerated trucks next to them. The tents are in response to reports from authorities that the official morgues could be overcrowded by next week.

In New York City alone there are currently (March 26, 10.15 a.m.) over 20,000 confirmed corona cases and 280 deaths. Around 3,000 people are currently being treated in hospitals. The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, announced on Wednesday that it is expected that up to 140,000 hospital beds will be needed soon. But only 53,000 are available.

Nationwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University dashboard, more than 69,000 people have been infected and 1,046 have died of Covid-19 to date.
