After storming a residential campus, officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) took down the Palestinian flag from a flagpole – and raised the US flag.
The “proud moment,” according to Deputy Police Chief Kaz Daughtry, came when a large group of law enforcement officers broke up anti-Palestinian riots at the SUNY City College campus in Harlem. 173 Israel haters were arrested on the university campus after anti-Semitic riots.
Columbia was the “ground zero” of US university protests
Almost at the same time, the NYPD ended its occupation of a building at Columbia University a few blocks south. There, hundreds of people descended on the campus — which has become ground zero for pro-Palestinian protests on American campuses — with a special vehicle mounted with a ladder. The cops used this to break into “Hamilton Hall” during a spectacular night storm.
The hard-core protesters, some open supporters of Hamas, had been trapped there since Monday after their tented camp in the heart of the compound was dispersed.

The mayor justifies the police storm
Mayor Eric Adams justified the authorities’ tough approach in the end: There were signs that professional troublemakers from outside had brought in the anti-Israel students, said the Democratic. There were still scenes of devastation in the historic Hamilton Hall building that was evacuated. Furniture had previously been cut when barricades were built.
The wave of protests had spread to 50 US universities in the past few weeks. There have been evictions and police operations at colleges in nearly every US state – from Massachusetts to California. So far, a total of 1,500 people have been arrested in the US, 400 on Tuesday alone, according to CNN.

Hope for graduation ceremonies
In many of the vacant universities, lectures are currently only held online. A permanent police presence is planned to be maintained in Columbia for the next few days and weeks.
