New York police send robot dog Spot back early after criticism – IT Pro – News

… then there is almost no politician left to tell them to sit in a corner and howl with their woke bullshit.

… you tell it like politicians should?
Woke or not: about 10 ~ 15 years ago I knew someone in my study program (higher school) who was very focused on racism. It is just how you look at it, was my idea. I didn’t really deny it, but it didn’t seem helpful to worry about that either.
But now, years later, I get it better. Not only the discussion about Zwarte Piet, but also, for example, that research shows that houses are systematically not rented out if the person appears to have a non-Western-sounding surname.

To say that as a society we are racist? I think that is still too early now. But the elements are there. Plus: we can do something about it.
For example, “Our” Sinterklaas party is not taken away. Why should the party be less if the Petes have a different color? Does that really matter? Take a look at Krampus. The description looks like that of Zwarte Piet:

The Krampus is the companion of St. Nicholas in the Alpine region. …
they roam the streets, scaring children (and adults) with rusty bells and chains. …
Crampuses also enter houses. While Sinterklaas hands out presents to good children, the Krampus is a threat for punishment for the naughty children. He whips them or puts them in his pocket, after which the naughty children are taken to the forest

(bit off-topic, but a black pete need not to be black Pete, not Black, Not Pete, etc.)

I don’t see any racist elements in Zwarte Piet. They look nice, I don’t see how they are slaves or subjects of the Saint (a helper, but not as a minor). But I can imagine that you don’t like it when some kind of caricature gets the same skin color as you have. And something can change about those elements.

And as for the rental properties … well … I think it is a good thing that it is made public. It is outrageous to already convict someone by name. Incidentally, I also participate: if the spelling of a name does not or hardly matches the way it is pronounced, then I get a stereotypical (negative) image. And that is not good.

But as for the robot dog: I don’t know what exactly happened to it, so I find that difficult to judge. It would have been used “incorrectly” to start the discussion around racism. I am curious how I should envision this.
