New York Police Investigating Murder of 80-Year-Old Dominican Man Shot in Front of Wife

The New York police are investigating the murder of Marcelino Valerio, an 80-year-old Dominican who was shot early Sunday morning in front of his wife.

Both were returning to their home located at 1209 Ogden Avenue, in the Highbridge area after a family party.

When they were about to enter, a gunman on a bicycle approached them and shot directly at Valerio.

“He was opening the door, putting the key in, because my daughter left us in front (of the house), when I heard those shots, when I turned around I was on the floor,” his widow Luz Collado told Univision 41.

“It was very fast, I went crazy, I don’t know what I did, I don’t know what happened, he was walking around on a scooter, but I didn’t know that the person had shot, I thought it was a stray bullet,” she added still in shock.

Images from a security camera located near the scene managed to capture the man who was dressed all in black and had his face covered.

In the videos you can see how the suspect first passes in front of them, turns around and upon returning shoots directly at Valerio.

Collado assures that the police are investigating the case as a planned attack, which surprises her, since she assures that her husband had no enemies.

“They are saying that it was sent, but how is it going to be sent to a person like him?” he said.

“He was a kind person, a loving person, a person that no one can say anything about, he was my life partner,” he said between sobs.

Anyone with information about the suspect can call 1-888-57-PISTA.
