The pigeon, which does not occur in the wild but is kept as a pet by Americans, died at the animal shelter at the beginning of this week. The New York Times spoke to Carlos Rodriguez, who found the pigeon on the street last week.
‘I was perplexed’
At first, Rodriguez thought it was a parrot because of the color of the bird. “But when I picked up the animal, I just smelled the paint. I was perplexed,” Rodriguez told the American newspaper.
The animal shelter the pigeon was taken to wrote about the “flamingo” on social media. “We think a girl is on the way,” joked the shelter.
This caused a lot of reactions from people who reacted with great indignation to the fact that the pigeon may have really been painted pink because of a ‘gender reveal party’. That is a party where the gender of an unborn baby is revealed.
Failed Gender Reveals
In recent years, gender reveals have gone wrong in all sorts of ways. For example, a car caught fire in Australia, a woman was killed in the American state of Iowa and it caused a large forest fire in California.
Even if the pigeon had not been painted pink, the bird would not have lived long, the animal shelter fears. The pigeon could not survive on its own in the city park where it was found. In the end, the pigeon probably died from inhaling the toxins in the paint on the feathers.
