As of Saturday, 6,743 police officers, or 18.6% of its uniformed staff, were absent from work due to illness. And, still as of Saturday, 2,318 members of the police force wearing uniform and 471 civilian employees had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The day before, Friday, the NYPD reported 19 deaths from the coronavirus among its employees.
The disease affected 98,715 people in New York on Saturday, 27,457 of whom were hospitalized. As of 5 p.m., New York City was reporting 5,742 deaths. The State of New York brought in 6,367 for the city of New York alone.
