New York Police Arrest Five Suspects for Brutal Assault on Officers at Manhattan Shelter

The New York Police Department (NYPD) yesterday arrested five suspects who hit two officers while making an arrest in Manhattan.

A public security camera captured the moment when both officers were hit and kicked in the head and body. The authorities released the images.

The incident occurred on Saturday, January 27, around 8:30 p.m., in front of 220 W 42nd Street in the Candler building.

This office complex was enabled in 2023 as a shelter for immigrants recently arrived in the City.

Police also reported that the suspects fled on foot toward Seventh Avenue.

The material shows that the agents try to defend themselves, without letting the individual who was being arrested escape, however, they were brutally beaten.

The reason for their arrest was not immediately known.

Police said they arrested 24-year-old Yorman Reveron; Darwin Andrés Gómez Izquiel, 19 years old; Wilson Juárez, 21 years old; Johan Boada, 22 years old, and Kevin Servita Arocha, 19 years old.

He charged them all with assaulting a police officer, gang assault, obstructing government action and disorderly conduct.

The investigation remains open and they are looking for more suspects involved.

If you have seen them recently, help capture them by calling 1-888-57 (HINT). You can also send a DM to the Twitter account @NYPDTips. The calls are confidential.

Incidents increase outside New York shelters

In the last two months, several incidents have occurred around the shelters where immigrants are housed in the City.

The victim, identified as Dafrén Cañizales, died at the scene and three people were arrested for the homicide.

On this occasion, the alleged perpetrator was a security guard at the shelter.

In the last year more than 100,000 people have arrived in the City seeking asylum, 60,000 of them live in shelters set up by the authorities.

After that period, asylum seekers have to apply to the system again.
