The intention is that the first pizza will be delivered to space in 2023. The space journey is an ultimate attempt to find delivery guys as the staff shortage among delivery people has reached unprecedented heights. For example, the pizza chain currently has more than 500 vacancies.

Pizza deliverers who have been employed by New York Pizza for at least four months have a chance to win a spot on the space shuttle. In the coming year, customers of the pizza chain will determine who the best pizza delivery person in the Netherlands is. After that, the winner will start training for the first-ever pizza delivery in space. With a reserved place for a commercial space flight, that pizza delivery person will in any case arrive at the alien destination well prepared and with a fresh pizza.
