New York Philharmonic cancels entire season

After the Metropolitan Opera, the Philharmonic in New York also canceled their entire season due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Philharmonic announced yesterday that there would be no regular concerts up to and including mid-June 2021, after consultation with health experts. It is the first time in the almost 180-year history of the orchestra that an entire season has been canceled.

The Philharmonic Concert Hall in Manhattan has been closed since March due to the pandemic. The orchestra had originally hoped to be able to perform again in January 2021. To bridge the gap, the Philharmonic are trying to make do with online concerts and smaller appearances in public places in New York.

The neighboring Metropolitan Opera had previously announced that it would not start a new season until the end of September 2021. Broadway theaters have canceled all performances through May 30, 2021. The coronavirus crisis has been hitting the cultural industry in the metropolis of New York, which was one of the global centers of the pandemic in the spring, hard for months. Museums are now allowed to reopen under strict conditions.
