NEW YORK – A 29-year-old NYC fire department paramedic was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly taking a debit card from a 79-year-old woman’s purse during an ambulance call and using it to buy champagne . with Buffalo Wild Wings and pizza, among other things, the Queens district attorney’s office said Tuesday.
Robert Marshall is accused of taking the Springfield Garden woman’s card after she answered her home on August 8 for an emergency call. She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and returned home several days later when she realized her debit card was missing from her wallet, according to prosecutors.
According to a criminal complaint, surveillance footage of a liquor store in 20th Avenue in Queens, Marshall reportedly buys two bottles of Moet-branded champagne with the woman’s red debit card on the same day in August. That red card was also used to shop at a brick oven pizzeria, a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, a Key Food grocery store, and a laundromat, according to prosecutors, claiming Marshall was also behind those purchases.
A grand jury indicted him on 12 counts, accusing him of counterfeiting, identity theft, large-scale theft, forgery of corporate documents, criminal possession of stolen property and other crimes.
Marshall’s attorney, Oliver Storch, asked the public to hold the trial pending the conclusion of the case.
“Mr. Marshall is involved in saving lives, with a very young child, and he was terribly shocked and embarrassed by these allegations,” Storch said. “He wants to make sure his alleged actions don’t affect his colleagues at FDNY. We will review the allegation and address the allegations in the appropriate forum. “
The FDNY did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the case.
