“New York, organized crime”: a member of the team shot dead during the filming of the series

On the set of the series New York: Organized Crime, reality has surpassed fiction. On Tuesday morning, a member of the series’ crew was shot dead, an hour before the start of a new day of filming.

Johnny Pizarro, 31, had to make sure streets in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood were cleared to prioritize the flow of vehicles for the show’s crew. Responsible for securing the passage of cars, he was himself parked on Tuesday morning. At 5:15 a.m., an unknown person opened his car door and shot him with multiple bullets to his head and neck, according to initial reports from New York police. Transported to Woodhull Hospital, Johnny Pizarro succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

At present, the murderer has not yet been identified and his motives are unknown. A local resident told the New York Times that she heard “three shots […] really strong” and several nearby residents say they saw a man running in the minutes surrounding the murder. Everyone was aware that the cars had to be removed from the neighborhood by 10 p.m. the day before the crime, Monday, because filming would begin at 6 a.m. the next day.

The NBC channel and the Universal Televisions studio, producers of the third season of New York: Organized Crimewe reacted in a press release: “We were terribly saddened and shocked to learn that one of our members was the victim of a crime and died. […] We are working with local law enforcement as they investigate. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time. »
