NEW YORK.- The Opera Metropolitan (MET) of New York was a victim of a cyber attack which prevents the operation of its website, ticket sales and call center.
The prestigious institution assures that since Tuesday they have had problems, even if this does not affect the scheduled performances, which continue to be held.
However, the attack affects ticket sales, changes and returns.
The MET, which did not explain the nature of the attack, did not respond to AFP’s request.
The specialized publication OperaWire He cites a letter from the institute’s chief executive, Peter Gelb, to company members assuring them they are investigating the attack.
“Unfortunately, we suffered a cyber attack which temporarily affected our computer systems,” according to the letter.
“We are launching an immediate investigation into the nature and scale of the incident. While IT experts are trying to resolve the issue. Our systems are down,” he explained.
Gelb also assured in the letter that the MET cannot process payments at the moment.
Both companies and government institutions have been victims of cyber attacks for years in the United States and other parts of the world.
The US Congress on Thursday approved a gigantic national security package including tens of thousands of dollars to strengthen cybersecurity. The measure still needs to be approved by the Senate.
