NEW YORK — This year thanks to The Red Cross and Discovery, Shark Week brings with it a new message; donate blood to combat the shortage during the summer and you will have the opportunity to win a reward.
Thanks to Discovery, everyone who donates blood in July will automatically be entered for a chance to win an exclusive bundle of merchandise Shark Week what includes:
- Bicycle for the beach.
- Smokeless portable fire pit.
- Kayak.
- $500 gift card to purchase accessories.

The Red Cross saw a sharp drop in blood and platelet donations last month, and donors are being asked to make appointments as soon as possible to avoid a shortage these summer months. In June, the Red Cross collected approximately 12% fewer blood donations than needed, one of the largest monthly blood donation shortfalls in recent years.
If there are not enough donors, the blood supply is reduced and that could mean that in an emergency, hospital staff may not have blood products ready.
