New York was by far the most populous city in the United States as of July 1, 2013, according to the most recent demographics from the US Census Bureau.

The metropolis then had 8,405,837 inhabitants, nearly 61,500 more than a year earlier.
The largest cities followed Los Angeles (3,884,307 inhabitants), Chicago (2,718,782), Houston (2,195,914) and Philadelphia (1,553,165).
Statistics show that the cities that reported the largest population increases last year were mostly located in the southern and western states.
In this regard, seven of the 15 cities with the most progress are in Texas.
As of May 22, 2014, the total population of the United States is over 318,086,730.
