New York, New York | NZZ

The once badly notorious New York borough “The Bronx” has become socially acceptable again in recent years. Friends of nature get their money’s worth here as well as those of history and culture.

Those who visit New York are mostly walking on island soil – without necessarily being aware of it. And if you want to set foot on the mainland, you have to either cross the Hudson River to New Jersey or to the northernmost of the five boroughs, the Bronx. Separated from Manhattan Island by the Harlem River, this neighborhood is the only New York borough that is part of the American mainland. And although the Bronx has long been associated with crime and poverty and in some cases still is, it definitely has something to offer the visitor.
