On June 1, 2024, Mariët Westermann will be the first woman to become the new director and managing director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim and the foundation of the same name in New York. She succeeds Richard Armstrong.
“She brings with her a deep understanding of art history, museums and science combined with expertise in institutional management, philanthropy and international relations,” says the statement. Westermann is currently Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi and has experience leading higher education and non-profit organizations. She will work with the directors of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. www.guggenheim.org
