New York: Neglected bitch Ashley is rescued by the fire department

Dog found emaciated in abandoned house

When employees of an animal welfare organization found the pit bull lady Ashley almost four years ago in an abandoned house, she was already close to death. Her bones stick through her small, emaciated body, the owners simply left her in a house with no electricity or water. The bitch, like the house, was in miserable condition. But Ashley is a fighter. The vets nurse her up again with a lot of love and slowly the four-legged woman is recovering from her terrible fate.

Fire station should only be an interim solution

Erica Mahnken, co-founder of the animal welfare organization “No More Pain Rescue”, who takes care of Ashley, immediately starts looking for a new home for the fur nose. As an interim solution, she gives it to a firefighter friend who works at a New York fire station. It should stay there temporarily. But then the big surprise: after only three days, the firefighters call Erica Mahnken and ask if they can adopt Ashley. “Of course I said yes, my heart almost exploded with joy,” she recalls in an interview with the news channel CBS.

Ashley wins the hearts of Instagram users

From this point on, Ashley, or “Ash”, as they affectionately call their new owners, is an integral part of the fire department. Erica Mahnken is also pleased: “She’s constantly wagging her tail and is so kind to everyone and everyone jumps for joy!” And that’s not all. Because meanwhile the bitch Ashley has become a real internet celebrity! On their Instagram account, the firefighters share insights into Ashley’s everyday life as a firefighter – and that is celebrated by almost 38,000 users. (cheese)
