New York must avoid second wave of infections

At a press conference, the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, congratulated the president and vice president-elect and talked about what this victory will bring to New York.

He noted that the rate of Covid-19 cases continues to rise, representing a dangerous situation for the city’s public health.

He reiterated that New Yorkers have the opportunity to stop a second wave of Covid-19 infections, as long as the recommendations are followed.

During his participation, the Health Commissioner, Dave Choksi, confirmed that the numbers of positive cases of coronavirus are increasing steadily throughout the city.

Therefore, counts will be made by zip code each week of cases and people who have been tested.

The Health Commissioner presented an extreme care guide for New Yorkers to consider during the holiday period at the end of the year:

  • Seek safer holiday activities
  • Religious services
  • Social gatherings
  • Travels

Similarly, he recalled considering the 4 key principles to combat the pandemic: stay home, separate, wear face shield and wash your hands; to which is added the test of Covid-19.

De Blasio reiterated his advice to avoid traveling during the holiday vacation period, but noted that New Yorkers forced to do so should take into account:

  • Get tested before and after the trip.
  • Perform a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
  • Consider the different recommendations for states with high or low infection rates.
