New York. After almost six months of closure in the Corona crisis, the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) reopened its doors to visitors on Thursday. Numerous people took the chance to visit the renowned museum in Manhattan, which has reduced its entry capacity by around three quarters, on the very first day – in compliance with hygiene, distance and mask rules.
Opening under strict conditions
Since Monday, museums in New York, almost all of which had closed since March, have been officially allowed to reopen under strict conditions – but only do so gradually. The Metropolitan Museum plans to follow MoMA this weekend.
The Whitney Museum of American Art plans to follow suit on September 3rd, and the Guggenheim Museum on October 3rd. The Corona crisis has been hitting the city’s cultural industry, which was one of the global epicentres of the epidemic in spring, hard for months.
