A thirteen-year-old New York murder mystery may soon be solved. A man was charged Friday with the murder of at least three women. According to American media, he may be involved in more unsolved murder cases.
The man is associated with the so-called Gilgo Beach murder case. CNN reports on the basis of court documents that the suspect has been charged with the murder of at least three women.
Since 2010, human remains of at least ten deceased persons have been found on Long Island, which lies off the coast of New York City.
Thirteen years ago, human remains were first found on a remote stretch of Long Island beach. That discovery was made during the search for a 23-year-old missing woman. The found body turned out not to belong to the person wanted.
In the year that followed, the bodies of another nine people were found in different parts of the island. Several victims would have been active in prostitution and placed online advertisements before their deaths. But human remains were also found of a toddler, an Asian man and a woman who had been missing for decades.
Belt with suspect’s initials
The Gilgo Beach case has puzzled local authorities for years and spawned conflicting theories about whether a serial killer was active in the area.
In 2020, a belt was found with the suspect’s possible initials on it. The investigation was then reopened. The suspect was finally arrested on Thursday.
The man was brought before Friday morning (local time), where he denied being guilty through his lawyer. According to CNN the suspect is an architect who lives with his family in Manhattan.
