The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), New York City’s public transportation manager, has partnered with Rhino Entertainment to launch a series of limited-edition transit passes honoring one of New York’s greatest rappers. he story: Notorious BIG 50,000 cards were thus available from May 21 in MetroCard vending machines in four subway stations in central Brooklyn. This event coincides with the anniversary of the artist’s birth. He should indeed have been 50 years old on May 21… But this extraordinary artist died, assassinated in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. A crime that has never been elucidated and which prematurely ended a career which looked promising.
Notorious BIG, aka Christopher Wallace, grew up in Bedford-Stuyvesant in central Brooklyn and has released just two studio records. He was multiple Grammy nominated during his career, which was tragically cut short at the age of 24. Her debut album, Ready Early Die, sold over 4 million copies, achieving double platinum status. The second, Life After Death, was certified diamond disc with over 10 million copies sold. “Biggie,” as he was colloquially known, was a central figure in the New York rap music industry of the 1990s, at a time when West Coast artists largely dominated the American scene. He is now considered one of the greatest rappers of all time. We owe him mythical pieces like Juicy, Big Poppa, Who shot ya or even Mo Money Mo Problems.
