  • The show can be seen until March 6, 2022.

Pink-colored locks, talking porcelain cups and ornate sofas: An exhibition in New York’s Metropolitan Museum will show how strongly the work of US cartoonist Walt Disney (1901-1966) and his studio was influenced by European decorative art.

It is the first show in the history of the museum that is dedicated to the work of Disney.

“Both the cartoons from Disney and the decorative art of the Rococo have elements of playful storytelling, joy and curiosity,” said the Austrian museum director Max Hollein.

The show, which should be on view until March 6, 2022, will present around 150 drawings and film clips from Disney’s work, along with around 60 pieces of decorative European art from past centuries, such as porcelain and sofas. The films “Cinderella”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Sleeping Beauty” play a special role.
