This year the opening spectacle was significantly restricted due to the corona crisis, a red carpet was not even rolled out. Artists, employees and spectators had to present proof of vaccination, the opera had previously declared itself a “completely vaccinated house”. The performance was broadcast live on video screens in Times Square and in a park in Harlem. Another performance of the play on October 23rd is to be broadcast live in cinemas worldwide, including in Germany.
Before that, the New York Philharmonic and the New York Ballet had reopened after long Corona breaks. Other institutions across the country are either back on track or want to follow suit, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra on Thursday.
