New York Mayor urges residents to cover their faces when going out before Covid-19

The mayor of NY, Bill de Blasio, urged city residents on Thursday to cover their faces when they take to the streets to help contain the advance of the new coronavirus.

“It is a face covering. It can be a scarf. It can be something that you make yourself at home. It can be a bandana,” De Blasio told reporters, while discouraging the use of surgical masks, as they are needed by medical personnel. .

“The reason for this recommendation is because studies are showing that apparently some asymptomatic and presymptomatic people are transmitting this disease. We do not have perfect evidence (…) but it seems increasingly evident,” he said.

The city of NY, with 51,809 infections, has become the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States due to Covid-19; the country registers more than 235 thousand infections.
